HoloH - A friendly game about fitting in
HoloH has been designed for Xbox Live by Bryant Drew Jones and
myself.
We wanted to
stay away as much as possible from technology and focus more on the physical interaction
of the co-located players.
HoloH encourages players to go back to the times
of exhuberant schoolyard play. We have been approached by consulting firms that see HoloH being a great
tool to facilitate teamwork and support leadership training.

Two teams of up to three people are randomly selected. They take turns to fit their bodies into abstract shapes that are
projected onto a 180"x72" screen. The opposing team is judging the other team's performance by pressing a button on the Xbox controller.

Our process
Bryant and I started out by sitting on two beanbags in the big empty warehouse at the back of the Center
for Digital Media. We knew right away that we
wanted to make something physical with the digital tools at hand. The next thing that came up in our brainstorming session was the idea
of exuberant childhood play.
When touching each other's bodies was not awkward, but rather part of the fun.
Something we did early on was playtesting our game.
Luckily our MDM classmates and the staff here at the MDM were always willing to play with us.

My Role
Bryant and myself.
I took on the role of the junior Game Designer in this team of two. Bryant, even though half my age, is years ahead in video game experience.
Lucky for me, he freely shares his knowledge and never tires to answer my questions and recommends great books on the topic. For this
project I heavily dug into Jesse Schell's The Art of Game Design.
